Duties

Deliver patient care by providing basic triage and help to ensure optimum patient-to-doctor flow.

Review and prepare medical record to ensure completeness prior to patient exam, obtaining missing documentation. Document clinic visit, observations, and related activities, file charts.

Assist with initiation of patient history and physical assessment; assist nurses and physicians with physical exams and simple in-house surgical and therapeutic procedures

Check patient viatal signs and take body measurements, documenting results.

Prepare and maintain exam and tereatment rooms, cleaning after patient discharges to ensure a clean and sanitized environment. Maintain supplies inventory and ensure patient care equipment is clean and properly functioning.

Collect specimens and prepares them for outside lab, communicating with lab for STAT pickups or testing. Perform simple STAT lab ests and perform urinalysis on urine specimens. Prepare lab results for physician to sign.

Administer breathing treatments and injections, perform EKGs and test pregnant patients on NST machine per provider orders.

Answer phone calls, relay patient requests and questions to appropriate individuals, explain provider instructions to patient as appropriate; provide teaching to patients and families within scope of knowledge base.

Assist with scheduling/referral of patients for specific treatments.

Respond to medical emergencies and administer first aid as appropriate.

Qualifications

Requires high school diploma or equivalent; medical assistant program graduate.

CMA and BLS certifications required.

Ambulatory care experience preferred.
