Jul 10th, 2006

Dr. Bruce Blanding, president of Jackson State Community College, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gary L. Brummer, professor of psychology, as Dean of Arts and Sciences.

Brummer, a 34-year faculty veteran, began his new position on July 3. "We are extremely lucky to have someone with Gary's qualifications for this position," said Blanding. "Add to that the unique sense of loyalty and history that he brings to the job and I'm sure he will lead the arts and sciences division to bigger and better things."

"It has been my honor to serve the students of Jackson State Community College for 34 years in the classroom," said Brummer. "And while I will still be in the classroom from time to time, I look at this new position as a way that I can contribute even more to the students and the institution I cherish. I'm excited to get started."

An alumnus of Murray State University, Brummer began his career at Jackson State in 1972 where he has continued to teach general, social, abnormal and developmental psychology for the past 34 years. He has served as department chair of social sciences since January 2004.

He holds a doctoral degree in higher education from Southern Illinois University and has completed 15 hours of post-doctoral study in counseling at the University of Memphis.
