JSCC, UT Martin finalize dual admissions agreement set for Fall 2024

May 23rd, 2024

Jackson State Community College (JSCC) and the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) recently finalized a dual admissions agreement that aids students in transferring course credits between the institutions.

The Dual Admissions Agreement was announced at a ceremony held on JSCC’s main campus on April 3. This Memorandum of Understanding aims to encourage students to continue their education by creating a seamless transfer process between JSCC and UTM. By enrolling at JSCC through the agreement, students can begin utilizing select UTM services their first and second year, along with taking 2000 and 3000 level coursework typically only available at the four-year level.

“Our goal while establishing this agreement was ultimately to create a transfer system that students in West Tennessee can benefit from,” said JSCC President, Dr. Carol Rothstein. “Whether it’s a Jackson State student continuing their education after graduation, or a student looking to attend UTM and stay closer to home, this agreement is designed to provide those students with the path that works best for them so they can achieve their educational goals.”

The agreement currently outlines 10 focus program options from which students can choose at the UT Martin-Jackson Center, including Agricultural Business, Criminal Justice, Education Integrated Studies (K-5 Education), Farm and Ranch Management, History, Interdisciplinary Studies, Management, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, and Special Education, with future program expansion in development.

We are thrilled to partner with Jackson State Community College," said UTM Chancellor Yancy Freeman. "Students have an incredible opportunity for training, gaining credentials and getting degrees in West Tennessee."

Through grants such as TN Promise and the University of Tennessee System’s UT Promise, students can combine these tuition assistance programs with eligible scholarships such as transfer scholarships to create a financial-friendly educational pathway toward a four-year degree.

Dual admissions will be available for first-year students who meet the admissions requirements for both institutions and have a 3.0 or higher high school GPA and a minimum 19 ACT/900 SAT score, or a 2.7 high school GPA and a minimum score of 21 on the ACT/980 SAT score.

Students who do not meet the UT Martin admissions criteria may be dually admitted to both UT Martin and JSCC through the program and transfer to UT Martin after earning an associate degree from JSCC or after completing 60 credit hours at JSCC with a 2.0 GPA or higher. Students who are dually admitted to both schools will maintain all student privileges at JSCC and select UT Martin campus services.
