JSCC To Hold Social Work Matters Day March 21

Feb 23rd, 2012

Jackson State Community College (JSCC) and JSCC Social Work Club will be hosting Social Work Matters Day on March 21 from 11 a.m. 1 p.m. at the Jackson campus in the gymnasium in celebration of Social Work Matters Month, which is an international recognition of Social Work.

This will be an information event providing attendees with information regarding the field of Social Work. Dr. Nell Senter, JSCC Social Work Club Advisor, said that there is a lot of misinformation out there about the field of social work.

Area service agencies and organizations and local universities and colleges with Social Work programs will be represented and will have tables at which they will provide materials and be available to talk to students and others interested in learning more about the helping professions and Social Work.

According to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), The social work profession has been instrumental in achieving civil rights and human rights advances in the United States and across the globe for more than a century. The primary mission of social work is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic needs of all people, especially the most vulnerable.

This event is free and open to the community. For more information, contact Dr. Senter, JSCC Social Work Club Advisor at nsenter@jscc.edu.
