JSCC to host scholarship fundraiser Oct. 13

Sep 22nd, 2022

The Jackson State Community College (JSCC) Foundation has unveiled a new scholarship fundraiser named Tacos, Tecates & Scholarships that is set to take place Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Skillet Junction (575 S. Royal Street) from 6-9 p.m.

The fundraiser aims to bring additional funding into the college’s Foundation to support students that may not be eligible to receive traditional grants and scholarships, or students who require additional funding to complete their schooling.

Tacos, Tecates & Scholarships will serve as a business after-hours function open to the downtown Jackson and West TN community. “We wanted to host an event that we can all come together, enjoy made-to-order street tacos, drinks and bust out our dancing shoes to do some salsa dancing,†JSCC Foundation Director Lindsey Tritt said. “We invite the community to join us for an eventful evening as we raise funds to make a positive impact on the lives of our students.â€

Last year alone, the JSCC Foundation was able to provide over $32,000 in scholarships and student relief. With the addition of this new fundraising event, the JSCC Foundation will aim to increase the number of scholarships in the upcoming academic year.

Tennessee Promise and Tennessee Reconnect initiatives provide financial assistance to students that qualify. However, many costs associated with attending college remain on the table for students to cover. The average cost of textbooks is quickly approaching $600 per semester, along with the cost of transportation and housing continuing to increase year over year. Providing additional financial assistance at the institutional level will allow JSCC to financially support the educational dreams of students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford college on their own.

Tickets for the event are limited to the first 100 people and can be purchased for $40 per person at tinyurl.com/TacoTickets.

All ticket sales and donations given during the event are tax write-off eligible. You can learn more about the Jackson State Community College Foundation at tinyurl.com/JSCCFoundation.
