Key Hired as Jackson State Provost

Dr. Bruce Blanding, president of Jackson State Community College, is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Ronald Key as the new Provost of Student and Learning Success. He is the chief administrative officer in charge of academic affairs and student services. This newly created position replaces both the vice presidents in academic affairs and student services who recently retired.

Key comes to Jackson State from Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach where he served as dean of academic affairs. During his 35-year career in higher education, Key has held various administrative positions including vice president for academic affairs at Okefenokee Community and Technical College in Waycross, Ga.; dean of arts and sciences at Clark State Community College in Springfield, Ohio; dean of liberal arts at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio; and assistant provost at Spalding University in Louisville, Ky.

He also worked for many years as executive director for the State Mental Health Association of Kentucky; vice president for the Kentucky Hospital Association; and director of plans and operation at the University of Louisville Medical Center.

In addition to presenting at many state and national conferences, Key is an accomplished author of two textbooks for writing and public speaking published by McGraw-Hill. He also enjoys teaching several classes each semester in communication and public speaking.

He earned a doctoral degree in higher education administration with a subspeciality in higher education law from the University of Louisville. His master
