PTK Inducts New Members in Honor Society

Apr 27th, 2015

Jackson State's Chi Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society held their annual Spring Induction Ceremony Saturday, April 25, in Ayers Auditorium. Each semester, students who have achieved academic excellence are invited to join PTK, and in the spring an official ceremony inducting these new members is held. This year, 111 new members were inducted into the JSCC honor society.

At the induction ceremony, new members, graduating members, and alumni who were in attendance were recognized. PTK officers provided a look back on all of the events and activities in which the members participated. Joshua Roberson and Aaliyah Yisreal of the All-Tennessee Community College Team provided details about the distinction and the honors luncheon they attended at in Nashville. 2015-2016 Phi Theta Kappa Chi Omicron officers were installed: Summer Vaughn, President; Hannah Chandler, Vice President; Binetou Ndiaye, Secretary; and Mary Kate Baker, Treasurer.

The keynote speaker for the event was Katie Pace. Katie has been responsible for many of the developments in the revitalization of downtown Jackson over the past several years. She has headed up the Jackson Downtown Development Corporation and has seen much success with the introduction of 80+ new businesses and the construction and renovation of many buildings in the downtown area. Pace provided a look back over her education and career and offered attendees five pieces of advice she has gleaned from her experience in school, work, and life.
