Seymour Appointed Vice President of Student Services

JACKSON, TNJANUARY 9, 2012--Dr. William (Bill) Seymour has been appointed to serve as Vice President for Student Services at Jackson State Community College. In this capacity, Seymour will provide leadership for the Student Services division.

Seymour is originally from Dansville, N.Y., where he attended SUNY at Oswego receiving a bachelor's in Psychology in 1979. He received his master's in Education at the University of Missouri Columbia specializing in Counseling and Personnel Services in 1981. He went on to receive his doctorate in 1989 also from the University of Missouri Columbia in Higher and Adult Education. Seymour is also a graduate of the 2003 Institute for Educational Management at the Harvard University, Graduate School of Education.

Seymour first moved to Tennessee in 1995 to work at Maryville College. While there, he served as Vice President and Dean of Students for nine years. He later served five years as Vice President for Administrative Services. Seymour brings more than 25 years of experience working in student affairs administration with 13 of them at an executive level.

Seymour first arrived in Jackson in 2009 to serve as president of Lambuth University. He served in that capacity until its closing this past summer. He successfully worked with community leaders to transition the campus to the University of Memphis.

Seymour, having been very active in national and regional professional organizations, has twice been recognized by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) for outstanding performance as a Senior Student Affairs Officer. He has authored and presented over 30 papers on higher education topics and written numerous columns on college life for local newspapers.

He has had a strong history of community service and involvement. Seymour has served as a member of the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors and the Jefferson Award Selection Committee. In Blount County, Seymour served as Board Chairman for Habitat for Humanity as well as the United Way. He was also a member of community concert bands and choirs. Here in Jackson, he is a member of Jackson 1st United Methodist Church and sings in the Chancel Choir. He is also a member of the Jackson Choral Society and serves on their board of directors.

He and his wife, Catherine Seymour, have been married for twenty-nine years. They have twin daughters who are 27. Jessica lives in Maryville, Tenn., and is a Physician's Assistant. His other daughter, Blair, and husband, David McLeod, live in Nashville, Tenn., and have one daughter, Magnolia. Blair is a Youth Leader at Covenant Presbyterian Church and David is a portrait artist.
