State Senator Lowe Finney will deliver the keynote address as Jackson State Community College holds its 42nd Commencement Exercises at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 at West Jackson Baptist Church at 580 Oil Well Rd. in Jackson.
The college will confer the degrees of associate of arts, associate of science, associate of science in teaching, and associate of applied science to approximately 600 students. More than 200 of those students will graduate with honors.
Finney, born and raised in Dresden, Tenn., graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He graduated from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2001. He is a member of the Madison County Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association and practices law with the firm of Spragins Barnett & Cobb, PLC in Jackson.
He was elected to the 105th Tennessee General Assembly to serve the people of the 27th Senate District. He serves as chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus, vice-chair of the Senate State and Local Government Committee, and was a 2007 member of the Senate Environment, Conservation and Tourism Committee and the Senate Government Operations Committee. He was a member of the Special Joint Committee to study the development and implementation of a long term care services plan, and the Joint Lottery Oversight Committee. Currently, he serves as secretary for the Long Term Care Oversight Committee and vice-chair of the Senate State and Local Government Committee. He is also a member of the Transportation Committee and a Tennessee representative to the SLC Economic Development Transportation and Cultural Affairs Committee.
