Workforce Solutions announces sixth Fiber Optic Boot Camp

May 18th, 2023

Workforce Solutions at Jackson State Community College will host its sixth Fiber Optic Boot Camp on July 17-21. The five-day, hands-on course will guide participants through completing three industry-standard credentials for fiber optic technicians.

This boot camp directly results from local requests from area utility and telecom companies. The fiber optic boot camp provides area technicians with high-quality fiber training that allow companies to keep their technicians local. “The fiber optic boot camp at Jackson State has provided our teams at JEA with high-quality fiber training that affords us the convenience of keeping our technicians local,” said Matthew Coffman, Superintendent Telecom Field Service at Jackson Energy Authority. “Our techs routinely attend the course as it’s offered and it’s a great boot camp for those looking to get into the field of fiber optics.”

The curriculum is structured and taught in a manner that enables those with no previous telecom experience to be successful and strong candidates for industry positions.

The boot camp is conducted by BDI DataLynk and is sanctioned by the Fiber Optic Association to provide standards-based instruction, which the U.S. Department of Labor recognizes.

The five-day course will be held at JSCC’s McWherter Center in Jackson. To learn more and to register, visit jscc.edu/fiber or contact John McCommon at 731-425-8826 or jmccommon@jscc.edu.
