Veterans' Support Services

Jackson State understands veterans and their families sometimes face special challenges. That's why we want you to know that service providers through the Department of Veterans Affairs offer free counseling and other support services in Jackson.

"Combat Support Groups" meet weekly in Jackson, and are open to all area veterans, whether they are students at Jackson State or not, and their "helpmates." The groups are led by licensed mental health care providers who have served in the armed forces and can better understand what veterans have experienced.

Topics focus around readjustment and range from marriage/relationship issues, medical and financial hardships, alcohol or substance abuse, depression or anxiety, and much more. Everything is confidential, and one-on-one counseling also is available.
